  • Blogs and sites
  • GitHub and GitLab releases

  • YouTube
  • Substack
  • Google Alerts
  • Job boards
  • Developer conferences

Paste a link. Monfil finds the feed.

You never hunt for an RSS address. Paste the page you already read: a GitHub repository, an arXiv category, a YouTube channel, a Bluesky profile or a company job board. Monfil finds the feed behind it, and asks you to pick when there is more than one.

A radar for your field, not another inbox.

See where something happened

Group sources into workspaces for work, research or the job hunt. Unread counts show you where the news is, and conference cards tell you when a call for papers opens or closes. Saved searches stay as pills above the river, each with a count of the new items that match.

You pick every source

Newest first, always. No ranking, no “suggested for you”, nothing hidden from you.

Your reading stays on your computer

No account, no Monfil server. Feeds, read state and saved articles live in a local database that you can back up. Anonymous usage stats are off unless you agree.

No algorithm decides what you see. You do.

“Mon fil” is French for “my feed”. One independent developer builds Monfil in public: the code, the test quality numbers and the changelog are open, and your reading stays yours.

Questions

What is Monfil?

Monfil is a free desktop feed reader for macOS, Windows and Linux. It follows blogs, release notes, papers, social posts, videos and job boards from the sources you pick, and shows them in one place. There is no account and no algorithm.

Which sources can I follow?

RSS and Atom feeds, Substack, Google Alerts, YouTube channels and playlists, GitHub and GitLab releases, Hacker News, arXiv categories, Bluesky, Mastodon, developer conferences from developers.events, and job boards such as Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby.

Do I need to find the feed URL myself?

No. Paste the link of the page you read, such as a GitHub repository, a YouTube channel or a company job board. Monfil finds the feed behind it. When a page has more than one feed, you pick the one you want.

Is Monfil free?

Yes. The desktop app is free and has no ads.

Is my data private?

Monfil has no account and no Monfil server. Your feeds, read state and saved articles stay on your device. Anonymous usage stats are off unless you agree in the app. Fetching feeds, articles and images connects to the sites that publish them.

Which systems does Monfil run on?

macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon and Intel, Windows 10 and 11, and 64-bit Linux with .deb and .rpm packages. There is no mobile app.

Can I bring my feeds from another reader?

Yes. Monfil imports and exports OPML, the file format that most feed readers use for subscriptions.

Is Monfil open source?

Monfil is source-available under the Business Source License 1.1. You can read, build and change the code, and use it for personal and internal business use. Each version changes to the MIT License four years after its release.

How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?

Open an issue on GitHub. Bug reports and ideas are welcome.
